Lost on Me

Veronica Raimo

"When a writer is born into a family, the family is finished, they say."

Without following a chronological order, the author tells us about her family, the memories she holds from childhood, her flaws, her wounds, her brother, and the cities that shaped her—Rome, where she grew up, and Berlin, which, after many visits, became a second home to her. Her writing, laced with wit and irony, acts as an antidote to painful memories, deliberately steering clear of dramatization. She carries her sense of humor through every page, full of sharp observations, making it an absolute pleasure to read.

To me, she doesn’t write to expose the dysfunction of her family or craft an interesting story but simply out of a desire to tell her own—the result is a story that feels genuine and real, no matter how much of it might be fiction.
